GICS Documents — Introduction
Some documents collected by Bilby are relevant to to one or more nodes in the
GICS taxonomy tree, used by
analysts to classify equities down to one of four levels of granularity:
sectors, industry groups, industries and sub-industries. Bilby enriches the data
rows corresponding to such documents with fields describing these GICS nodes and
their degree of relevance to the document. These enriched rows form the gics
dataset. Note that if a document is relevant to three gics nodes, then it
generates three rows in the gics
dataset. For this reason, the number of rows
in a daily gics
table returned by the Bilby API can exceed the number of
documents Bilby collects on this day.
